Product and Category Page SEO: How to Optimise Your Main Conversion Pages

GThe Googoing Team·Published 2026-09-22·11 min read

On a B2B export site, blogs and tutorials handle being found and being trusted, but the pages that actually generate inquiries are category pages and product pages. If those two are not optimised, no amount of traffic turns into orders. This lesson walks through it in order: division of labour → category pages → product pages → structured data.

Division of labour: category pages win rankings, product pages convert inquiries

Direct answer: optimise category pages first — export buyers search category terms (e.g. flexible solar panel manufacturer), so category pages capture the most search volume and are the main source of inquiries; product pages capture specific model long-tail terms and pass internal link equity back to the category page.

Category pagesCategory term + manufacturer / supplier / wholesale termWins rankings and is the main entry point for inquiries
Product pagesModel term + specification long-tail (e.g. 100W IP68)Captures precise searches, converts inquiries, links back to the category page

Category page optimisation checklist

Direct answer: the worst thing a category page can be is “just a row of product images”. Add a 150–300 word category introduction at the top (containing the category keyword), a specification comparison table and an FAQ, then the product list — this gives Google content signals and helps buyers decide faster.
  • Title formula: Category term + attribute + commercial term, e.g. “Flexible Solar Panels | 20W–400W | Manufacturer & OEM”.
  • Top-of-page introduction copy: State clearly what this category solves, the applicable scenarios, and your capacity and certification advantages (include E-E-A-T material).
  • Specification comparison table: Turn the wattage, dimensions and certifications of your key models into HTML tables — AI search loves citing tables.
  • Filtering and pagination: Point filtered parameter pages at the main category page with canonical, so you do not generate hundreds of duplicate pages that dilute equity.
  • Internal links: Link category pages to each other by application scenario (e.g. “outdoor power supply solutions” linking to “vehicle energy storage”).

Product page optimisation checklist

Direct answer: put every specification in HTML (do not lock it in a PDF), give each product at least 3 real photos plus a scene description, a clear inquiry button, and include MOQ and lead time. The buyer should be able to decide to send an inquiry by the end of the page.
  • Specifications in HTML: This is the most common way export sites cut off their own traffic — specifications only in PDF, which neither Google nor AI can crawl or cite.
  • Real photos + scenarios: Factory / production-line photos are the core of B2B trust and feed your E-E-A-T.
  • Conversion elements: Keep the inquiry button visible on the first screen; give the MOQ, lead time and certification information — the three things B2B buyers look for first.
  • Unique description: Do not copy-paste the same copy across a product series — write the differences (application, specifications, use case), otherwise hundreds of product pages dilute each other.
  • Discontinued / older models: 301 to a replacement model rather than leaving a dead link.

Structured data: Product and BreadcrumbList

Direct answer: use Product schema on product pages (name, image, brand, attribute parameters), ItemList on category pages, and BreadcrumbList site-wide. Schema does not lift rankings directly, but it determines how you look in the results and whether AI can cite you accurately.

Not sure how to write JSON-LD? Use the JSON-LD generator in this site’s tool hub: pick the Product type, fill in the fields, generate the code and paste it into the page.

⚠️ Note: only put real information in Product schema (real brand, real specifications). Faking ratings or prices in schema is spammy structured data that Google explicitly targets and can lead to a manual action.

FAQ

Category pages or product pages — which should you do first?
Do category pages first. Buyers search category terms rather than specific model numbers, so category pages capture more search volume and drive most inquiries; product pages handle model long-tails and pass equity back to category pages.
Is it OK to put product specifications in a PDF datasheet?
No. PDFs are hard for Google to crawl and will never be cited by AI. Every specification must sit on the page as an HTML table, with the PDF only as a downloadable attachment.
Should a B2B product page show prices?
At minimum give the MOQ, a reference price range or the factors that drive price. Having no pricing information at all noticeably reduces willingness to inquire; a “get latest quote” button can replace a price, but the page must still carry substantive pricing information.
